SOUTH Sydney coach Michael Maguire reckons young gun Dylan Walker is ready for State of Origin and Rabbitohs skipper John Sutton is convinced the 19-year-old would handle the challenge of going head to head with Greg Inglis.

As the Blues search for a right centre to replace the injured Josh Morris, the gifted Walker on Monday put in the perfect audition in the Rabbitohs 29-10 win over the hapless Dragons.

Walker ran for 142 metres from 14 runs and finished with one try, six tackle busts, two line breaks, 12 tackles and importantly no missed tackles.

And after the game Maguire didn't hesitate when asked if the teenager was ready for Origin.

"From the start of the season to where he is now is an enormous improvement," Maguire said.

"I know he would do a good job if he had the opportunity. It's just a matter of getting that chance.

"He is definitely going to be a future centre in that arena without a doubt. I'm sure if they gave him the chance he would take it."

John Sutton added that marking Inglis wouldn't worry the young centre.

"He gets a lot of practice at training so I think he would go all right," Sutton laughed.

"He has come a long way in a short amount of time and if he got a chance I think he would do really well.

"He has got speed, he defends really well and he is good with the ball so I think he would do good."

Blues coach Laurie Daley said he would be reluctant to move Jarryd Hayne from fullback to centre and Daley conceded right now he was looking at bringing in an Origin rookie for the job.

Walker, Canberra's Jack Wighton and Newcastle's Joey Leilua are the obvious contenders while the another option would be to move Beau Scott to centre and bring back Greg Bird.

Bird usually plays on the left edge but Daley would also be reluctant to drop Ryan Hoffman after his Origin one performance.
