TEENAGERS Ashleigh Barty and Nick Kyrgios have been rewarded for making the most of their French Open chances by earning wildcards to this year's tournament.
Barty and Kyrgios, who turned 18 and 19 respectively last month, broke through at Roland Garros last year.
Wildcard Barty upset Lucie Hradecka, a player ranked 96 places higher, to secure her maiden Grand Slam singles victory before falling to then-world No. 12 Maria Kirilenko in the second round.
It was part of a big year for Barty, who went on to win her first-round match at the US Open and was also runner-up with Casey Dellacqua in three of the year's four majors.
"I've played a lot more in big matches," Barty said of the past 12 months.
"The experience accumulates and it's just finally coming together, I think, and hopefully I can be ready for a big year."
Barty is learning to like clay, which has not been her favourite surface.
"It's a part of the season that we have to play on and in the end you have to learn to love it otherwise you're never going to have success on it," Barty said.
"Hopefully I can recreate the success I had at the French Open last year and get another win."
Kyrgios only secured his wildcard opportunity last year when original choice John Millman was injured.
The youngster from Canberra, who was then ranked No. 262 in the world, shocked veteran Radek Stepanek in his opening match before bowing out to Croatia's Marin Cilic.
Since then Kyrgios has raised his ranking 100 places.
He impressed fans at home at the Australian Open, where he suffered a gallant second-round defeat to Frenchman Beniot Paire.
He overcame a six-week absence with an elbow injury to win back-to-back Challenger titles on green clay in the US last month.
