GAI Waterhouse, trying to secure her first Cox Plate with Fiorente, concedes she is becoming increasingly wary of It's A Dundeel in the countdown to the nation's weight-for-age championship at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

"This Cox Plate is not just between the mare, Atlantic Jewel, and Fiorente,'' Waterhouse said.

"I think the one to beat is (trainer) Murray Baker's horse, It's A Dundeel, he is the unsung hero of the race.

"Of course, Atlantic Jewel will be hard to beat but It's A Dundeel looks sensational, there is no horse at Flemington that looks better.

"He has turned the corner - you don't want to be running against him.''

Atlantic Jewel is the $2.20 favourite on TAB Fixed Odds to win the Cox Plate with Fiorente next at $5.50 alongsisde It's A Dundeel.

It's A Dundeel is the only horse to beat Atlantic Jewel, edging out the champion mare in an epic Underwood Stakes last month.

However, the five-time Group 1 winner hasn't raced since due to a hoof abscess but Baker believes he has won the race against time to have the horse fit for the Cox Plate.

Baker gave It's A Dundeel an exhibition gallop between races at Caulfield last Wednesday and said the four-year-old will have a searching hit-out at Moonee Valley's Breakfast with the Stars trackwork session tomorrow morning. In other Cox Plate news:

#Atlantic Jewel and Fiorente will have their final serious trackwork gallops at Flemington tomorrow morning.

#Caulfield Guineas winner Long John is likely to gallop at Moonee Valley at the Breakfast with the Best session.

#English hopeful Mull Of Killough is expected to make the trek from Werribee for another look at the Cox Plate track tomorrow.

#Chris Waller will work Foreteller at Moonee Valley tomorrow and then decide whether to run him in the Cox Plate or save the horse for the Mackinnon Stakes.

#Corey Bown has been booked to ride Super Cool.

#Glen Boss is appealing a careless riding suspension in a last-ditch bid to keep the ride on Puissance De Lune.

#Trainer Paul Beshara will learn at 10.30am today what penalty he will receive after being found guilty of treating his Cox Plate hopeful Happy Trails before the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes.

Waterhouse said Fiorente's Cox Plate preparation has gone ahead like clockwork since his luckless fourth in the Turnbull Stakes.

"I'm really happy with him,'' Waterhouse said. "I had him out there (yesterday) morning working on the dirt at Flemington and he looks a picture.

"He has won at Moonee Valley so we know he handles the track, he also worked well there last Thursday.''

Waterhouse also believes the three-year-old, Long John, should not be underestimated in the Cox Plate.

"Long John he has a terrific chance, he is a very good horse,'' Waterhouse said.

"Three-year-olds have a good record in the Cox Plate and the Peter Snowden stable is flying.''

Snowden said he will inspect Long John today and determine whether the three-year-old needs another solid gallop before the Cox Plate.

"It is more than likely I will take Long John over to Moonee Valley on Tuesday morning,'' Snowden said.

"Complacent will also go over and I'll decide after he gallops whether to run him in the Vase or go straight into the Victoria Derby.''
